Scottish Island Art

south_through_geary.jpgGot to see an exhibition of Pam Carter in the Morningside Gallery, Edinburgh in February. We have seen her work several times before in the Gallery on the Isle of Skye at Isle Ornsay. One year we bought this print (2001 I think). She normally sells in large envelopes. We asked if it could be rolled gently and packed in a black bin liner to help with its trip back to the boat in the rain.

marriage_journey.jpgDorinda Johnson is another favourite. We bought some bowls from her in about 1994 when her studio was at Port Appin. There was a Harlequin Garden ornament we really coveted but couldn’t afford. We finally caught up with her on Tiree in 2006 and there was the Harlequin. She was quick to tell us it wasn’t for sale! greyorange.jpgWe did buy a painting. We gave it to the couple we bought Giselle from – Pete and Gay Kite – to say thanks you for all their help in the transfer and getting her prepared for the trip home. I like this image on her site. The one we gave was a seascape. The canvases are unusual in that they have the frame painted on them!
When we were on Tiree in 2006 we also succumbed to a fabric picture by Susan Woodcock. The torn fabric really captures the waves on the beach
